FAQ
What is the advantage of toe socks?
When our toes are squashed together in narrow or restrictive shoes, the muscles which spread and move our foot become weakened. Think how small someone’s arm is when they finally have their plaster cast removed after breaking their arm. Small tight shoes are like casts for your feet.
Toe socks individually surround each toe, and give some gentle separation whilst you work out, increasing the strengthening effect and potentially leading to improved balance and strength output over time.
Are they difficult to put on?
No.
Initially, like with any new task, it might feel odd. Remember, the master has failed more times than the beginner has tried. As your feet become stronger and more mobile you will be able to actively spread your toes and the sock will glide straight on. Think of it like learning a new party trick.
I've tried toe socks before and they were a bit thin?
Other toe socks are designed to be quite thin. We wanted to approximate a normal sports sock to give a similar feel and level of protection. We consider our sock to be middle weight, or in the goldilocks zone, not too thin and not too thick. Just right.
Won't my toes be squashed in my shoe?
Barefoot shoes have been gaining in popularity since 2012. These are usually designed with less padding and a wider toe box so the toes can spread and move naturally. NOT SOX work great with barefoot shoes.
Interestingly in recent years, both the Nike Metcon and Reebok Nano (the biggest selling CrossFit trainers), have been designed to also have a wider toe box to allow this toe movement. There are even companies like TYR creating weightlifting shoes specifically with a wide toe box.
Short answer, if you have normal trainers that don’t already squash your toes, then no. If you have CrossFit shoes, no. Overall, no.
Can they be worn outside the gym?
Indeed! The things that make a sport sock great, will make your feet feel great in every other part of your life.
Why do you only have one product?
We are a small start-up. The machines needed to make these socks are highly specialised and the minimum order quantities were HUGE! To get off the ground, we chose to make one very high quality product that we were happy with, over having multiple colours and styles but of a lower quality. Additional designs are in our future plans.
Why 'Beta'?
The Beta (Be-tah) launch of a software product or computer game is the first time a small group of people get to play the game. The game has been written and coded, all the problems figured out and then it is released to a small group of early-adopters to test. They play with it, give feedback and become an important part of the process before the full launch.
Is the world ready for the gym sock with toes? We need a Beta to find out.
Better, from the ground up!
There is nothing wrong with your regular gym sock. It’s a classic. It works.
But it’s also mediocre. Vanilla. You can put all the fancy patterns on it you want, but to your feet it’s still the same as every other sock you have ever worn.
