1,000km of desert. Zero blisters.

Feet wearing sandals on a grassy surface

In 2024 we sponsored athletes walking 1,000km through the Abu Dhabi desert. The ones wearing Not Sox finished without a single blister.

One walker did his first 500km in a single pair — washed each night, back on the next morning. We only found out halfway and made him take fresh ones.

The same socks were on the start line at the 2024 Hyrox World Championships.

We built a middleweight COOLMAX® toe sock to be the world's best gym sock. Turns out it's quite hard to wear out, too.

Frequently asked Questions

FAQ

What is the advantage of toe socks?

When our toes are squashed together in narrow or restrictive shoes, the muscles which spread and move our foot become weakened. Think how small someone’s arm is when they finally have their plaster cast removed after breaking their arm. Small tight shoes are like casts for your feet.

Toe socks individually surround each toe, and give some gentle separation whilst you work out, increasing the strengthening effect and potentially leading to improved balance and strength output over time.

Are they difficult to put on?

No.

Initially, like with any new task, it might feel odd. Remember, the master has failed more times than the beginner has tried. As your feet become stronger and more mobile you will be able to actively spread your toes and the sock will glide straight on. Think of it like learning a new party trick.

I've tried toe socks before and they were a bit thin?

Other toe socks are designed to be quite thin. We wanted to approximate a normal sports sock to give a similar feel and level of protection. We consider our sock to be middle weight, or in the goldilocks zone, not too thin and not too thick. Just right.

Won't my toes be squashed in my shoe?

Barefoot shoes have been gaining in popularity since 2012. These are usually designed with less padding and a wider toe box so the toes can spread and move naturally. NOT SOX work great with barefoot shoes.

Interestingly in recent years, both the Nike Metcon and Reebok Nano (the biggest selling CrossFit trainers), have been designed to also have a wider toe box to allow this toe movement. There are even companies like TYR creating weightlifting shoes specifically with a wide toe box.

Short answer, if you have normal trainers that don’t already squash your toes, then no. If you have CrossFit shoes, no. Overall, no.

Can they be worn outside the gym?

Indeed! The things that make a sport sock great, will make your feet feel great in every other part of your life.

Why only one style?

We're a small start-up. The machines that knit toe socks are highly specialised and minimum order quantities are HUGE. So we chose to perfect one very high quality sock rather than launch lots of colours at a lower standard. It's been tested over 1,000km of desert walking and at the 2024 Hyrox World Championships — and new colours and styles are in the plan.

Who's behind Not Sox?

Not Sox started with a simple question: why does the world's most popular bit of gym kit ignore the shape of your foot? We launched with a small "Beta" batch to a group of early adopters, took their feedback, and kept going. The sock you're buying is the one they helped prove — in the gym, at Hyrox, and over 1,000km of Abu Dhabi desert.

Toe socks for the gym

Better, from the ground up!

There is nothing wrong with your regular gym sock. It’s a classic. It works.

But it’s also mediocre. Vanilla. You can put all the fancy patterns on it you want, but to your feet it’s still the same as every other sock you have ever worn.
